FilmLight - Baselight Integration (Legacy)

Updated yesterday

Baselight by FilmLight is a state-of-the-art color grading system. With Frame.io integrated into their software, they've developed one of the strongest Frame.io integrations of any creative tool. Many core features of Frame.io are built directly inside of Baselight without the need of installing panels or extensions through their own native controls.

Key features include:

  • Seamlessly integrated: Upload timelines and import comments directly from the Baselight Scene menu. With no extra extensions or plugins to download or install, it makes the workflow incredibly intuitive.

  • Selective comments: Set up user-defined marker categories making it easy to filter the comments that are exported from the timeline to Frame.io.

  • Project Presets: Save export settings on a per-project basis, making it faster and easier to collaborate on multiple projects without continuously reconfiguring upload options.

Uploading with Baselight

Using the Scene menu in the Baselight menu bar, you can select Upload asset and comments to Frame.io. This renders the timeline in the background and uploads it with marker comments that have been added. A Baselight dialogue allows you to select a Frame.io project destination, the timeline to upload, and specific comment types like client notes, director notes, or only markers of a specific color.

Commenting with Baselight

You can have more control of what comments are being uploaded into Frame.io as well. If you add comments to your timeline and color-code them, you can then choose to upload only those color comments to Frame.io. This allows you to still use different color Baselight markers for yourself, or other team members without having all marker comments uploaded to Frame.io. When new comments or replies are added to Frame.io, you can decide to apply them to your timeline in Baselight as specific “Client Notes.” They also appear in Baselight’s Client Notes list. Clicking on an item in the list jumps to the point in the timeline. Client notes can also be filtered in the list allowing you to focus on new notes by specific people.
