The main focus of the review and approval cycle is to provide feedback through comments and collaboration with your team.

Commenting

Play the video by pressing the spacebar or clicking the play button. When typing a comment, by default the video will pause so you can get your thought out and also timestamp your comment.

Comments can also be sent without being timestamped if needed by clicking the checkmark on the left.

To submit your comment, click Send or press the Enter key, once it's sent the clip will resume playing.

At mentions

Type @ to mention a specific team member or collaborator. Mentioning a team member that is not already added to the project as a collaborator will automatically add them for you, learn more about adding Team Members to projects here 👍

Users you mention will receive an email notification and an in-app notification will appear in the Web App and Mac App integration for FCPX

Push notifications will be sent to users on the Frame.io iOS app 📱

Hashtags

Organize comments by the department with a hashtag. Simply type # and any word to create a clickable hashtag in your comment. Clicking on the hashtag will organize your comments that also have that same hashtag in it.

This is a great way to sort comments for your different departments: color, VFX, VO, edit, legal, etc. You can also search throughout the comments by commenter or by information in the comments.

Edit Comment Time/Range

To adjust comment time or a time range after publishing, click on the comment edit button (the pencil icon) on the comment card. While active, you can then click and drag the comment bubble or time range in the play bar to the new desired location. You can update any text from the comment field as well. Click Save to update.

Range Based Comments

As soon as you start typing your comment a yellow selector will appear on your player bar. Drag the handle to select a range and click enter. Once the comment has been submitted, the range will be indicated with a green line on your timeline.

💡 Shortcut Pro Tip: Hold down shift and use your left/right arrows for precision scrubbing.

Press ESC key to remove the range if you'd rather leave a timestamp comment.

Selecting a comment will highlight the range. Press the spacebar to play the range or, turn on looping to play it in a loop.

Press ESC key to clear the playback range/loop.

💡 Shortcut Pro Tip: Hold down (R) key to insert an InPoint once you release (R) your OutPoint will be set.

NOTE: Annotations will display on the first frame of the range.

Range-based comments flow into our integrations in Premiere and FCPX just like standard comments.

Team only comments

Team only comments are like private/internal notes that are only visible to other team members on the account.

Only team members are able to leave team only comments; collaborators and reviewers will not see these internal comments.

Team only comments will appear in a gold hue with a lock icon 🔒

Team members can also filter between comment types within the comment sort order menu which means you also have a choice of including or excluding team only comments when downloading comments as TXT, CSV, or XML.

NOTE: Team Only Comments are only available on Team and Enterprise plans.

Annotations

Going deeper with commenting, if you want to further communicate your idea after you have typed in your comment, select the paintbrush tool to draw directly on the video with different shapes and colors. The drawings do not affect the original uploaded file.
