Move files or folders within your account

The Move To... can move a single file, multiple files, or an entire folder to different locations across your account in a much more fluid and elegant way, making it easier than ever to organize media on Frame.io. If you’re looking to make copies instead of just moving content, you can also copy assets and folders across your account.

How to move your media

Open the menu options on a single file/folder by clicking the three dots and select Move To... from the dropdown. Hold Command (Mac)/Ctrl (Windows) to select multiple items to copy and then select the Move To... option.

Next, select the destination to copy the asset to by using the search bar or expand folders in the menu. Create a new folder as well if a new location is needed. Filters can be applied as well to specify folders, projects, or teams to search for.  Click Move to confirm the new location.

If your asset just needs to be moved up a single folder level for a quick move, the option to do that is also listed as Move Up One Folder in your asset settings.

When you have a file/folder selected to move, use the Z keyboard shortcut to open the move to menu options 🚀

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Z Key = opens the move to modal when a file is selected

  • Right arrow = expand folder

  • Enter key = expand folder

  • Left arrow = Collapse folder

  • Up arrow = move up the list

  • Down arrow = move down the list

  • Enter (2x very fast) = Confirm move

FAQ

Q: Are there any restrictions with moving content?
A: Collaborators will have restrictions with moving some content. They can only move assets that they have uploaded themselves. Private files/folders will not be visible to Collaborators, so only Team Members can move them.

Q: Can I move assets to a different account I have access to?
A: For security reasons, moving assets and folders is not supported between accounts. They are only permitted between teams and projects under one account.
